THE WAR PAINTINGS
Artists in all venues have found their lives and artistic directions
affected by the events of today. It’s necessary.
There
is an obligation to make statements about the actions being taken
by those who have betrayed our trust. Distrust, pessimism and anger
seem appropriate feelings in light of the actions taken by our government,
our businesses and our military. These emotions have begun, over
the past two years, to express themselves
more and more in my paintings.

Listening for My Child
I sat listening to my child's voice
why are you there — I miss you
and not here
why are you there
tell me why you are there
my teacher tries to tell me
why you are there - I miss you
the headlines try to tell me
why you are there not here
I miss you
my child's voice said
I take each step in this sand
as a step closer to leaving
a step which leaves me able
to hear only my mind’s ear sound
my child asking
why are you there
and not here
I'm forgetting I miss you
I miss you
there's a parade tomorrow child
a parade to welcome the man
who made us two instead of three
the man who said we know the way child
we know the facts of war
and the child asks why
we are two instead of three
we are raining the reigning answers
on each child who asks
why are we two instead of three
I miss you

A Moment
There is pain
original pain
unexplainable
original sin
pain
nausea
fainting
pleading
and
unimaginable
peace
at that youthful
unimaginable moment
that light moment
that blinding light moment
when nothing matters
you are
no longer
in pain |
